Obama: A New America?
Welcome to the webpage of the Thanks to Scandinavia Institute in American Studies for Scandinavian Educators!
Celebrating Our 46th Year!
July 4 - 28, 2009
Since its beginning in 1963, over 1800 educators from the five Nordic nations have attended the Institute in American Studies for Scandinavian educators, held each July on the campus of Luther College, Decorah, Iowa, U.S.A.
Past participants consistently rank it among the best summer courses they have ever taken: "I never expected to learn so much! I do not know how you managed to fit all the lectures, field trips, parties, theater, concerts, and picnics into such a short time. The summer course was so well planned and taken care of that I lived it instead of just taking part."
Major support for stipends for institute participants comes from constributions from Thanks to Scandinavia, Inc. (TTS). TTS was founded in 1963 by the Danish-born entertainer VIctor Borge and New York attorney Richard Netter to honor and remember the humanity of Scandinavians who rescued Jews during World War II. TTS is an organization affiliated with the American Jewish Committee.
